The Department of Consumer Affairs & Fair Business Practices was set up in September 1999 for protecting the interest of consumers. 20 District Fora, State Commission, the Legal Metrology Organisation and a newly set up Directorate of Consumer Affairs & Fair Business Practices are functioning under this Department.

The Directorate of Consumer Affairs & Fair Business Practices has 25 Regional Offices of the Assistant Directors of C.A.F.B.P and 3 Regional Centres for Consumer Education & Fair Business Practices situated in the districts and important sub-divisions.
This Directorate has 1 Director,4 Deputy Directors,29 Assistant Directors,66 Deputy Asst. Directors, 489 Consumer Welfare Officers besides other staff.
